Care at Union Health Center is Coordinated


We will work closely with your Specialists, Hospitals, Laboratories and Diagnostic Imaging Centers to arrange for any consultations, testing and treatment that is needed. We also work closely with hospital emergency rooms and urgent care centers to arrange for your follow-up care after illness or injury. We coordinate all of the details for you and assure that all of your various providers are communicating with each other about your health. We make sure that all of the elements of your care are cohesive, your diagnosis is clear, and your treatment is appropriate. We centralize your health information in our secure Electronic Health Record, which allows your care team to track your health outcomes to make sure you get the best care.

Union Health Center is a nationally recognized patient centered medical home where primary care providers, specialists and other professionals serve the health care needs of union members, their families, retirees and other members of the community. Our mission is to provide and coordinate excellent health care services to a diverse population. Our goals are to improve the health of our patients, to use resources wisely and to provide a positive experience for patients of all backgrounds.

1914 – The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU) established the Union Health Center in 1914, in the aftermath of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.
1963 – For our Fiftieth Anniversary, President John F. Kennedy honored us for creating “a new conception of medical care for the worker…”
1996 – First UHC renovation created a clean and modern space.
1997 – UHC became one of the first health centers in the country to adopt an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and move to a paperless system.
2000 to Present – UHC offers free cancer screenings to qualified uninsured women over 50 who live in the New York.
2001 – Implemented Advanced Access program which gives patients same day or next day appointments.
2010 – Recognized by NCQA as a Level III Medical Home, the highest level of achievement possible.
2016 – Over 100 years later, our patients come from many different industries and all walks of life. We continue to serve members of Workers United/SEIU, while we welcome growing numbers of members of Local 32BJ/SEIU. Union Health Center is the flagship 5 Star Center for Local 32BJ.
